Nearly a hundred of his blends were each stored in separate numbered casks; he then called together a number of skilled blenders and friends and invited them to sample each blend and to select the one which was in their opinion the ideal Scotch Whisky blend.
The choice was unanimous and the number of the cask or ‘vat’ was ‘69’ and so he named it there and then ‘Vat 69’.
The distinctive logo of VAT 69 is a copy of the writing on the original cask.
The Whisky was first bottled in port wine bottles. The iconic packaging in India is based on this original bottle shape.
